Palin And That Whole African Continent Thing

Palin And That Whole African Continent Thing

This story was an example of an Internet hoax that bit some of the best media out there. At one point, it was the "story of the day" on some cable shows and even newspapers.

Unfortunately, not only was it not true, it was intentionally made up.

This quote pretty well somes it up: "Sarah Palin is so dumb, she doesn't know Africa is a continent!" This remark slipped out of the mouth of McCain policy adviser Martin Eisenstadt, said MSNBC anchor David Shuster on Nov 10.

The kicker: There is no Martin Eisenstadt, at least not one that was a McCain policy adviser. It was all a hoax put together by two guys: Eitan Gorlin and Dan Mirvish.

What's worse, the hoax was figured out by a blogger months ago, but the story was still being reported in November.

You can read more about it, and about the blogger who uncovered the hoax, here.
