Ron Paul Stands Alone

Ron Paul Stands Alone

He may be out of the presidential race, but Texas Rep. Ron Paul is back in the news.

The House of Representatives passed a resolution for China to stop its crackdown on Tibet and to free anyone arrested for "nonviolent" demonstrations.

The vote? 413-1. The "1"? Ron Paul.

Ron Paul Stands Alone?

PoliticalWinters, how do you figure this is "nuff said"?

I would have also voted to pass this resolution (thus I disagree with Ron Paul on this vote). But he had his reasons for voting as he did. I'm sure it has something to do with the facts that,

  1) China is an independent nation, we have no business meddling in their affairs, and we wouldn't like it if China told us to "Free the South" and let the Confederacy rise, would we?
  2) Our government has spend decades giving political and economic gifts to China - indeed, their economy became strong after many of those same politicians voted FOR the huge trade deficit that allows China to sell cheap imported products in the US - thus driving many of our own American owned businesses out of business.

What I don't understand is, why are you trashing Ron Paul over this vote, without getting his side of why he voted that way, and why you are giving a pass to the politicians who have helped China become our strongest competitor?

Because I disagree with Paul

My problem with Ron Paul is I believe he's an isolationist to the extreme. In a perfect Ron Paul world, the United States would have this big bubble over it and everyone else just fends for themselves.

Have we as a nation meddled where we shouldn't at times? Absolutely. Yet we also have helped other nations throughout the world numerous times. I just don't see how you can have it both ways. Either we are involved in world affairs or we are not.

I don't agree with the idea - especially since the "local economy" is now global - that we can just stick our heads in the sand and say we're not going to get involved.

We are a superpower. We can help others or not. I think we should. His vote proves my point - his view is it's none of our business. I think it is.
